JSE provided specialty design services for this signature steel superstructure cable-stayed bridge over the Ohio River between Maysville, Ky. and Aberdeen, Ohio. Utilizing JSE’s own in-house bridge design software, “BRUCO”, JSE developed a complex, time dependent structural model to determine cable stay forces, superstructure design stresses and bridge geometry. JSE provided a stress/capacity design check of the superstructure and substructure for each step of erection; including time effects for creep and shrinkage and unbalance moments during weekly cycles.
This cable-stayed bridge has a 1,050 ft main span and side spans of 525 ft. The Maysville bridge has towers reaching upwards of 304 ft above the river in addition to two 12-ft lanes and two 12-ft shoulders. The cable stayed superstructure consists of a concrete deck supported by two main 84” to 60” deep steel plate girders with floor beams. The concrete deck is composed of precast deck sections which have cast-in-place joints and post-tensioning in both longitudinal and traverse directions.
